HAPPY BIRTHDAY HEATHER! I'll be sending you a letter soon. :) :)
I made it to P-day!! Everyone says that the worst part of the MTC are your first four days there. I'd have to disagree. I loved my first four days! I seriously was so happy waking up so early and having to get ready in like 25 minutes and I loved that I was in class for upwards of 10 hours a day!! It was great! I seriously got to thinking "I could totally get through the MTC without even having a P-day!" And then yesterday I totally changed my mind. P-days are just as necessary to missionary work as the other days. It was hard for me to focus yesterday. And I was feeling a little frustrated because although I love to obey the rules and I really try to obey them, there are new rules just popping up all the time. And I don't mean to say that like I'm just being ignorant and haven't read the handbook. I have read the white missionary guidelines handbook all the way through. But yesterday they just informed us they don't want the sisters wearing ponytails (???) I really don't understand why. I've heard the MTC is just kind of strict. Only a few more days here though. But they keep telling us how they want us to be polished and wear makeup and do our hair and shave our legs, which is hard when you only have 30 minutes in the morning. Oh well! :)
Ok so here is my travel plans! Because of my last name being at the top of the list, I am the "Travel Leader".... Which means I have to make sure that 26 Elders and Sister get from here to NC. Good thing we just barely flew a few weeks ago. Our flight is Monday morning at 7:08. So we are leaving the MTC at 3:30 AM. (HOLY COW) So I'll probably be calling really early, but you are all up early anyway.
Right now I'm washing my clothes and it is the biggest furnace in here. So so hot. Luckily I am sitting next to a fan the size of a gong. The weather in Provo has been decent! On Sunday we all walked to the temple, and it was burning hot. But that will be nothing in comparison to the wet heat I'm in for next week... Speaking of the temple, the Provo temple is closed till August!!!!!! We were so sad. So we won't be going probably until we get back from our missions.
Wow I am so all over the place. Ok so our teachers are Sis. Bown and Bro. Fuller. Bro. Fuller went to Charlotte on his mission, so we were pretty excited about that. They are wonderful teachers. So caring. I have felt so blessed to have them. I have also felt blessed with the ability to focus (minus yesterday) All last week I was just so happy and I felt like I had a much better attention span. I've been able to wake up just fine, although going to sleep isn't always easy.
In Relief Society on Sunday, let's see who taught.... Oh yeah it was Sheri Dew! Hahaha how cool is that?? Sunday was great. I thought it wouldn't feel much different than the other days because we learn about the gospel everyday!! But Sunday was so different. Such a great feeling. I was having a few doubts on Sunday about teaching and such, and that evening we had "film" where you get to watch church videos and we watched "The Character of Christ" by Elder Bednar, and wow. Tears the whole time from me. It was totally an answer to prayers.
Let me tell you about my investigators! Our first one is Felicia (who is actually Sis. Bown, but she acts like an investigator) She told us her boyfriend is in prison and wants to get back with him when he is released, and I must have looked so awkward cause I didn't know what to say. I didn't want to prod! But anyway. She is getting baptized. Obviously there is a lot that leads up to that, but it would take too long.
Our TRC investigator is Hely from Guatemala who is WONDERFUL! She is an actor, but the actors here are members, nonmembers, or converts and I am pretty sure Hely is a convert, but she acts like how she was before she was a convert. She is so sweet and told us all about her family and her father who passed away and how she was raised Catholic and how much she loves God. Sister Carter and I taught her how Heavenly Father loves her like her earthly father does. We taught her that she can pray and ask questions and get answers, and she was struck by that. She cried and told us we brought back to her sweet memories of her dad. I cried a little too. haha. But it was such a beautiful experience. I really do enjoy the role-playing here. Although I know it's not "real" we can make it a real experience and actually have revelation from the Spirit. I loved it!!
On the topic of teaching, I felt like Sis. Carter and I were doing really well at teaching by the Spirit. We prepare lessons, but we really focus on listening the Spirit. In all of our classes they keep teaching us that we need to teach by the Spirit. Yesterday I was feeling a little confused because they kept teaching us that, and I felt like I wasn't learning anything new, and that maybe I was doing something wrong because they kept telling us to teach by the Spirit when I thought I was. Sis. Bown told me that more than worrying about that, I should ask the Lord how he feels about what I am doing and if he is pleased, and that I don't have to worry so much that I am not doing what we are learning in class. That really consoled me, and I felt a lot better.
I loved loved loved the package!!!! The best was the letters. The facebook update was super awesome and a good way to see pictures of what people were up to. I loved Landen's butter grease-stained letter! Everytime I need a boost I just think of my butter toast letter from Landen!! Hahahaha! I'm cracking a smile just thinking about it now. Also I loved Heather's me as Mike Wazowski picture! I showed all the girls in my room. There are 6 of us in one room! I guess normally it is supposed to fit four. I am on the top bunk right below the air conditioning. Which is nice! But sometimes it gets really cold!
The MTC cafeteria... I feel like all I do is eat and go to class. I often forget what meal it is I am eating when I am there. My zone has the latest meal schedule. Breakfast at 8:45, Lunch at 1:50, Dinner at 6:45. There is a lot of food here, and it's all you can eat. Which is awful. It's easy to eat unhealthy especially when they have ICE CREAM ALL THE TIME! Especially BYU ice cream. Ugh. I am determined to eat better this week. I'll just eat tons and tons of fruit and wheat toast. Haha! Oh also, there is tons of cereal, and to your surprise, I don't eat it everyday. But the other day on the Life cereal, someone had a put of piece of paper above "Life" that said "Eternal". WELCOME TO THE MTC!! hahaha it's like a different world here
Wow sorry this is so long! (Haha just kidding I know you have wanted to hear from me) I love it here!! Thank you for your support. Dear Elder is awesome because you have the convience of typing and I get to have a physical letter! I'll be writing you all soon. I'm sorry I didn't get to write each of you a letter, I just kind of ran out of time right before I left for the MTC! But I'll have plenty of time on the flight. Which I forgot to mention has a layover in Atlanta at 12:45.
Ok, well I think I'll go write you all some real letters! I love you all!!! Thank you so much for your support. I always am trying to transport my prayers to you and hope you all can feel how much I love and miss you. This is my last (and first, and only) P-day before I'm in NC! I probably won't email you next week, but who knows. Tell Ayrika that my companion's name is Erika, and that as soon as I saw her name, I knew all was right with the world!!! Hahaha love you all!!!!
