On Her Way!

Kylie was scheduled to fly out on Monday July 8th.  We were hurrying to send out one last package with a few things she needed on Wednesday, but ran out of time to send it.  I was thinking- I will just get a same day package out tomorrow.  By the end of the day, I realized that because Thursday was the July 4th! there would be NO packages sent.  I called around and many were not going to open again till Monday.  Luckily our UPS store was going to be open Friday.  That worked.

We had just recently flown to Las Vegas, and had gone through the whole airport security thing then.  In her last letter, Kylie told us she was put in charge of the group flying together.  She was glad we had recently gone through this as she was comfortable with the airport.  She told us later that one of the Sisters didn't have a ticket because she had been recently reassigned, but that was easy to fix.

We were told that Kylie would be leaving the MTC around 3-4 a.m. to ride Frontrunner to the airport.  We were awake and waiting to see when we would get a call.  I'm not sure how that works- whether they are given a phone to use while they travel, use a pay phone on Frontrunner, or a pay phone in the airport.  We didn't receive a call until 6.  She was really happy at the MTC, but was excited to get to North Carolina.  We talked of her preparations beforehand, which were squeezed into Saturday as many things are not open on Sunday at the MTC.  Kylie was worried about the weight of her bags being over.  With rearranging books into her carry-on she was just under 50 pounds on both bags.

It was so good to hear her voice!  She was happy and loving the experience.  We talked for a few minutes and she talked to her siblings before she said others were waiting in line to use the phone.  I'm glad I recorded her call so I could listen to it again later.  She would have a layover in Atlanta.  We watched her tiny plane graphic cross the plains in real time on Flightaware.com.  We watched her land in Atlanta around 3 our time.  We waited an hour to see if we would hear from her again.  The Atlanta airport is pretty spread out, so we didn't think she would have enough time to call.  She made her next flight, with some of the Elders continuing on to Oklahoma.

We got an email from the Mission Secretary that our daughter had arrived at the Mission Home.  A couple days later, we got the following email from President Craven.

We are so excited for her!  We feel a peaceful feeling whenever we think of how she's doing.  We feel a reassuring calm that she is happy and doing the Lord's work.  What more could you want.
