Dear Family,
Lots of things happened this week! It went really fast! So Tuesday we went down to Charlotte for exchanges. It didn't really hit me that Sister Whitmer was leaving and I was training until they called all of the trainers up to the front (we hold transfers in the Chapel) and that's when the tears came :) They were happy and sad tears. But it quickly went away when I got to meet my wonderful new companion, Sister Rendon! :) She is amazing! President Craven called her name first, and then said that I would be training her, and she looked surprised! When we sat down, it turns out she knew who I was!! She is friends with Shelbie Owens, who was Jodee's roommate! So crazy! I specifically remember Shelbie telling me while we were living in Orem that one of her good friends had gotten called to Charlotte! We talked about how neat it would be if we were companions. Well, it happened! Hahaha. So I know Sister Rendon's friends and I've even met the boy that she was dating! So that was pretty funny :) But she is such a great missionary! So wanting to work hard and to find people to teach. Which is so wonderful. She is an answer to many prayers!
Being a trainer so far has been interesting. This week was crazy because of transfers, and then our weekly District meeting was moved to Thursday, which is when we usually have weekly planning. Weekly planning takes like 2 or 3 hours, which was SO long my first week in the field. So poor Sister Rendon had to do Weekly Planning her first morning in Colfax! It was exhausting. Haha. I talked so much the first few days, just explaining everything, I started to lose my voice! I'm getting it back now though ;)
Soooo Kevin is getting baptized on Saturday!! I can't even believe it. I wish you could see the progress he has made. It has been so amazing to watch. Every time we are in his living room, teaching a lesson, I just am amazed, and think "This is what I always imagined missions being like!" He has just totally embraced everything about the gospel. He is one of those people that have been prepared for a long time, but just needed to hear about it. It really is humbling, and I have definitely come to see how little we really do as missionaries, and how it all comes back to Heavenly Father and His love for His children. And the power of the Holy Ghost. Typically people start paying tithing after baptism, but Kevin this last week asked if he could donate his tithing this week. We said that Bishop wouldn't be around because of conference, but he could wait till next week or mail it in. He said he would mail it in because he is worried he will spend it, and wants to make sure he pays it!! His faith and diligence is just incredible. He is very excited about his baptism. We went over the baptismal interview questions last night, and the Spirit was so strong as we went through the questions. Last night Kevin also brought up on his own about how he wanted to share the gospel with others. He said he hasn't had the chance to yet, but he really wants to. He also was excited about receiving a calling. We asked why he thought baptism was so important, and he basically bore his testimony to us about baptism and how he knows this is the true church. Best thing ever!!!
I have (obviously) never planned a baptism. So Sister Rendon and I are figuring it out together!! Haha. Sister Tucker's son's baptism is the next day, so she is giving us tips :)
This week is going to be super super crazy. On Wednesday we will have Zone Meeting, then Friday we'll have a Zone Conference, AND the Sister Training Leaders want to go on exchanges this week, AND Kevin's Baptism is on Saturday. Yay! Hahaha. It will all be good though.
Oh! Almost forgot! At transfers, they announced the Elders assigned to our ward. Sister Whitmer was sitting with her new companion (who I actually know from UVU) and I saw her tear up. Colfax has been a rough area to work in for missionaries, but now things are going so well, thanks to the hard work of many missionaries before me, and we now have 4 missionaries in the ward! Elder Peterson and Elder Copenhaver. They are such a great addition. Our District got split so now it's just us, the Colfax Elders, and Kernersville Elders. It's weird not having any other Sisters, but it's a great district. I can't wait to work with them the next 5 weeks! :) Great news also - I am in a tri-share with the cars, which at first I thought that meant we had the car every third week and I was like:
D:
But it actually means we have two cars between our district, and we have two weeks with the car and one week without :) It will work out really well. It was super weird driving the first time in three weeks. It was dark too, so that was kind of scary! Haha. There is a lack of very many street lights out here. Neighborhoods don't have street lights like they do in Herriman.
ANYWAY... :) I loved Conference! I was so happy getting to watch it and think about y'all watching it at the same time. We watched Conference at a member's home on Saturday because Kevin came and watched it, but then we watched it in the chapel on Sunday. No one comes to the chapel to watch it. Just missionaries. Haha. We don't blame them though! But Kevin loved it. He did little quiet claps after talks he liked. He cracks me up. Also, we explained wards and stakes to him last night, and when we said "wards make up a stake" he sat back in his seat, and was like "...Wards make up a steak? Like a piece of meat?" You don't realize how funny church terms can be until you explain it to someone who hasn't heard it before.
I am so glad to hear you had a great week! :) Time is flying by here. I definitely am excited for the day when I get to spend time with you all and see you again, but I am really seeing how fast my mission will go. The next time we have Conference, I will be more than halfway done with my mission. Weird to think about. But I am loving it here!! :) I love you all so much. I think about you and pray about you all the time!!
Love,
Sister Adams
