Phew. I do not even know where to start. Things are super busy here, as they seemed to have been lately. But it has been so good :)
Sooo Happy New Year! :) On New Years Eve they did not want us out tracting so we were supposed to be in at 7:00 if we did not have appointments. So we were really excited for that, but then we ended up having dinner and then a meeting with Bro. Rottweiler and all the missionaries in the district. And it was great! He is a funny guy, but he has so much vision and determination for missionary work! We are working on the next Member MTC, which will be at the end of this month, and it's going to be the best one yet! As we are planning it, it's amazing to reflect on how far the ward has come in the 6 months I have been here. Everyone just so badly wants to have success in missionary work! Anyway, so we went to bed at 10:30 as usual on New Years Eve, and I told Sister Rendon I was going to jump on her bed at midnight to tell her Happy New Year, but then the alarm went off that I set so I could wake her up, and I was way too tired. So I said to myself that telling her Happy New Years in the morning was good too ;)
This week was so great! We taught a lot and had a lot of success. On Thursday night we were in the car talking about who we wanted to see the next day, and I just had this feeling that was like "We need to see (Roger)!" Who is a guy that we just talked to one day in a neighborhood in his driveway and he was really nice, but I didn't think he was SUPER interested. So when the thought came I was like "uhh, I don't really want to see (Roger)." Then I just said out loud to Sister Rendon "We should see Roger tomorrow!" Even thought I didn't really want to, but I just felt like we should try. So when we get to Roger's the next day, his wife was out in the driveway this time, and she was packing up their stuff so that they could leave on a road trip to a cabin the mountains. We started talking to her, and she has been to lots of different churches, and even went to a Quaker one for quite some time. Turns out she actually saw us at Chick-fil-a the other day on Christmas Eve when we went with all the other missionaries before we went caroling! But anyway, as soon as we found out they were leaving out of town, my thought process was so clear and I had the thought come that "they are going on a long trip. They'll be stuck in the car for a few hours with no distractions. Give her the Book of Mormon". And pretty soon she asked "do you have anything for me to read on my drive?" It was amazing how everything just worked perfectly. I felt a little frazzled because we didn't have a lot of time to even explain what the Book of Mormon was or where it even came from, but we both shared our testimonies of the Book of Mormon and invited her to read it. She said she would! Usually when we first meet people, we just give them a pamphlet on the Restoration, because it's easy reading and a good explanation. So it was weird for me to give her the Book of Mormon, with very little explaining of what it was. But even though I was a little nervous about how she would be able to understand it, I just knew that was what she needed. There was no doubt that the Spirit was telling me everything I needed to do in that situation! We left her with a prayer, and Sister Rendon prayed. When we opened our eyes, I was expecting her to just say "Thanks, bye!" She did thank us, but she did with tears in her eyes! It was such a great experience!
Yesterday (Sam) (the same Sam from when I first got here) and Jack came to church! We are 9:00 church now and we don't really know how we feel about it... Haha. But anyway, we hadn't seen (Dorothy) come in yet, and we were kind of worried! So we called them just before 9:00 and they had just woken up! They didn't know the time changed! We felt sooo bad, but we really did tell (Dorothy) on the phone that it changed to 9:00. We think it probably got lost in translation though, because with (Dorothy) just recently learning English, it's hard for her sometimes to understand things over the phone. But we went and saw her yesterday and she is going to fast again to know if she should be baptized. She is so so so close. Also (Sam) accepted a baptism date again. We don't really know if it will really happen, but hopefully it does :)
Another crazy thing that happened yesterday was we were walking around an apartment complex with Katlyn (a 19 year old recent convert who just moved in and gives us rides all the time and comes and teaches with us) and this car drives by and this lady rolls down the window and is like "Hello Sisters!!" we responded hello but had no idea who it was. We walked up to the car, and there sits a lady and her husband with missionary tags on! Haha it was so weird to see! But turns out they just got here three weeks ago and are serving in the stake next to ours! They were just dropping off a sister that they took to church far away from us, even though she is in our ward. We had no idea who she was or that a member lived in that apartment complex, so we introduced ourselves to her. She is also from Africa and also speaks French and was baptized a few months ago. Haha. Clearly Sister Rendon and I need to learn French or something.
As if all of the things this week weren't busy enough, the BEST part of yesterday was when we came home and we were like "Yay! We're going to bed!" And then I stepped into our room on the floor next to my bed, and it felt like someone spilled a huge cup of water. So I stepped back and there was water where I stepped there too! Then I realized that the whole middle part of our floor was completely drenched!!! Like not even just damp, but soaking!! Haha my first instinct was like "Hmm. Probably not a big deal." But then I decided to call the apartment management and leave a message. It asked if I wanted to leave an emergency or nonemergency maintenance message and I was like "Hmm. I don't really think it's that big of an emergency." But Sister Rendon was like "I think it's probably under the emergency category". So I left a message along the lines of "Hello! This is the missionaries that live in apartment _____ and our floor is completely soaked! Soo we just wanted to let you know!" We got a call right back and the maintenance guy who lives in the complex said that our water heater was broken. So then we had to tell our Elders, and then they realized they needed to come over too because we couldn't be along with the maintenance guy who was coming soon. So then they called the Zone Leaders who called the Assistants who called President Craven. So now EVERYBODY was on board. I just laughed so hard. So there we were, with the Elders, the maintenance guy, and the carpet guy who used a hose to suck out the water, at 11:45 at night. It was quite the scene. The Elders moved our beds and we slept in the living room, and for probably the only time in our whole missions, we were given permission from President Craven to sleep in!! Haha. Then this morning we had to go to Sister Tuckers house to use her shower. And now here I am emailing. And I think that's a wrap for all of the adventures this week. I am sure I will think of plenty more later.
Missions never fail to keep you on your toes! But they are so fun and so rewarding :)
